What is The Nurtured Heart Approach ?

The Nurtured Heart ApproachTM was born by Howard Glasser M.A., in his therapy practice working with intense and
difficult children.  Normal interventions he was trained in did not seem to work, and in many cases, made things even
worse.

As a once 'difficult child' himself, he was sensitive and intuitive to these children and began using interventions of
concepts & practices that made sense to him.  His stunning results were noticed when he was called upon to take on
more and more challenging cases.

Each day that we interact in the life of a highly-spirited child can be a test of wills.  It is usually the child who has the
last word, and usually the parent who is completely exhausted by day's end.  A cycle, of sorts, has been formed.

The child's negativity is fed by the energy we return to it.  Each time we return their anger with anger of our own,
we only feed into this negative energy.  It is as if one were to throw gasoline on a fire.  It will hardly put the fire out,
but instead erupt, into a full blown inferno.

Truth is, children FEED OFF this negative energy by taking our own energy!  No wonder parents and teachers are
exhausted after dealing with these behaviors!

Typical methods of discipline usually backfire when used on challenging children.
                                            You are NOT failures.
Rather it is
the usual discipline methods that have failed for both you and your child.

Nurtured Heart is an effective way to take control, to recognize that a child's intensity has the potential to become a
gift when inner wealth is nourished in clear, specific, meaningful,
in-the-moment ways.

It does not single out the child in the family or in the classroom.

It DOES deliver consequences for unwanted behavior.

It works because it goes to the root, containing the underlying wellspring of innate goodness that all caring adults in
these kids lives, know exists.  This is why they try everything they can to reach them; to help them succeed.  Usually
the result of these efforts are very short-lived, even though they have been done with the best of intentions.

The Nurtured Heart ApproachTM turns our upside-down methods right-side-up.

Lastly,
It is
a practice;
a practice, when done with consistency, by cultivating true inner wealth, by not inadvertently
energizing negative behaviors, will grow the child's greatness to positively shine.

It is truly worth trying.
